1. Samples of pangola grass (Digitaria decumbens Stent) and bermuda grass n.1 (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers. cv. Coast cross) were cut at 3, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of age in experimental plots for determining the cointents and in vitro digestibility of the dry matter, total phosphorus and inorganic phosphorus. Pastures were irrigated and fertilized at a rate of 200, 65 and 65 kg of NPK/ha/year, respectively. 2. Dry matter, total and inorganic phosphorus contents decreased with pasture age. Inorganic phosphorus levels for both species were higher than 60% of the total phosphorus. The linear regression analysis showed a high relationship (r = 0,95) between in vitro dry matter digestibility and cutting age. There was small relationship between in vitro dry matter digestibility and that of total and inorganic phosphorus. 3. It is concluded that in the studied pastures, tyhe digestible phosphorus is high and mainly in the form of inorganic phosphate. |
